Rain Rain Rain

This started off as a "what are you doing this afternoon?" shoot, which turned into dodging out of the rain which in turn became "let's go get a fry up".

Brotherman

So the sun is finally out, and as a result things have suddenly gone mad.
At the end of last week Brotherman came down to visit the studio so we could take some new promo shots. A massive thanks to Johnny G for arranging this and being my assistant for the afternoon.
It's shaping out to be a good year for him, a short film about his struggle as a musician trying to make it in London is in the works and his song 'Heart of dem' has over 58,000 views on youtube, and is steadily growing.

Quickly Going Nowhere

To say i've been running around like a headless chicken of late would be an understatement. Not that i'm complaining, but the man flu I have been infected with has certainly put a dampener on things.

I have recently had the pleasure of jumping in to fill the shoes of the cinematographer on a short film titled Quickly Going Nowhere. The film is based around the concept of someone who is trying to make a career out of what they love, whilst simultaneously trying to exist day to day by having a nine to five job.
Based around true events from the life of London based rapper Brotherman (Thomas boord-James) the film acts as a showcase for his work and paints a picture of an artist struggling for recognition.
First time director Johnny Griffith has worked with a close group of creatives who are all in the same position as the central character. Everyone is working hard to be taken seriously and prove that they are passionate in what they do.

Off the back of the film Thomas and Johnny are setting up their own multi media company called King and Country and have secured a sponsor in the clothing company Dephect. Brotherman is also sponsored by Dephect.

120° of the dead

The Horizon Kompakt is a clockwork panoramic camera that shoots a 120° photograph by cocking the cameras shutter then releasing the mechanism. I was fortunate enough to have been given one of these cameras a few years ago when a friend of mine upgraded hers. They are similar in many ways to the Widelux although you don't have as much control over your images as the Widelux offers.

I had always been aware of Jeff Bridges work shooting with a Widelux on every film set he has worked on and wanted to try something similar. Being on the set of Resurrection was my opportunity to put the camera to good use. I still have more films to develop and one in the camera to finish off which  will upload once they are ready to scan.

During the last week of filming we would sit for up to two hours a day waiting for the torrential rain to stop. So whilst drinking tea and eating my way through a mountain of baguettes I took some shots of the cast and crew enjoying the down time.

The last three characters we have met in the last week are Gibson (Joe Rainbow), Mac (Jim Sweeney) and Harden (Jade Colucci). It has been great watching them all get into character and they've all kept our spirits up during the long shifts.

Five by Four

For those of you kind enough to follow my blog I apologise for not updating as regularly as I should.

All shot on a Tachihara Wista copy with a 135mm lens, shot on ilford HP5 and developed in LC 29 Developer.

Megaphone

What do you do when you are lent a megaphone for a week?

I called up my friend Mark for a portrait. I wanted the megaphone to actually have a relevance in the shot rather than just being in the picture because I had it.

Mark was one of the original members and vocalist for the british hardcore band The Hurt Process.
The bands debut album Drive By Monologue received a huge amount of praise from the british music press and they quickly gained fans both in the Uk and US.

Over time band members began to leave and were replaced by american musicians, now i'm not sure if there any of the original line up in the band.

Shoot For Your Life

The great team over at shootforyourlife.com have featured my portrait of film director Mike Leigh on their site. It will be up on the front page for 24 hours and then become part of their archive, when it is replaced by another photographers work tomorrow morning.

I have spent almost entire days going through this website and looking at each photographers work, so it is a great honor to become part of their archive.

The Readerswives Collective

For those of you who have perused the links at the side of this blog, you may have come across The Readerswives Collective. For those of you who haven't, here goes....

The RWC are an art collective founded in Guernsey by Andrew Smith, AKA-Rost, DJ 76 and many others. Their mission is to make art accessible to everyone and encourage new, upcoming and also established artists to network and work together.
Boasting an impressive roster of underground artists across Europe the RWC are growing in number by the day.
Check your pie before you eat it, as they've probably got their fingers in it!

I shot the above portraits of RWC founder Andrew Smith during two separate visits to Guernsey, both shot on a Mamiya C330. Top is on Ilford XP2 and bottom on Portra 160 VC.

George Mallory

Shot on my old Bronica ETRS, the one on the left was on Kodak E100VS Slide and the black and white on Ilford XP2. These images formed part of an exhibition and were based around the story of George Mallory and Andrew Irvine who disappeared whilst attempting to summit Mount Everest. I managed to pick up the goggles from an old army navy store for £5 and the jacket from a charity shop. We walked for miles to find a spot suitably in the middle of nowhere along the sea front and it was even colder than it looks in the pictures!

Yasmin

A couple of months back I decided to get back in to taking portraits just for fun. Everything has been getting so serious lately that I began to lose site of why I started doing photography in the first place. 

So I called up a few friends and have been making regular shoots with them just for the hell of it.

The above shots of Yasmin were all taken on the same day, all except the last one are a mix of ring flash and daylight.
